Definition:
CTQ takes a customer’s
need and translates that into specific,
measurable and actionable
requirements.
The CTQ measurements can
be based on both internal and
external customer
definitions
Purpose:
CTQ’s are useful in
helping product designers and manufacturing teams know where to focus their
efforts in designing robust products and processes
CTQ Trees:
Critical to Quality (CTQ)
Trees helps to translate broad customer needs into specific, actionable,
measurable performance requirements.

When developing new
products and services, quality is important – not only to satisfy clients, but also to help in standing out
from competitors
In the below example,
1) Customer need
is to get a good transportation service
2) Good
transportation means which provides good quality of service with a lower cost.
3) In order to
meet the customer need , business needs to be effective and efficient i.e.., effective through quality of service and efficient through covering the
distance in shorter time period with a lower cost.
